During a recent live broadcast with Wedding Market News, a viewer asked me a very good question, a question that really made me think. They asked “Do you think event planning is different for the new generation?” My answer: “Yes, the new generation is constantly on the go and always using technology, so we have to find a way to reach them in that way.” The younger generation is often harshly criticized but I think in this instance we can learn a little and see how the wedding industry can improve by incorporating a few things that this generation loves so much. Let’s be honest, this generation is getting married and planning weddings, now! This is the generation who will set the new wedding trends! We can’t reach them if we don’t go where there are! Many of my clients are working during the day and don’t have time to meet with me a million times to plan their wedding. That’s why I cut that meeting number down to five (unless more are needed) and use different forms of technology to engage with my clients.
The Process - "There’s an app for that” You no longer have to go grocery shopping, get up to get the remote to the television or walk to the thermostat to change the temperature. I make planning a wedding this easy by having a process in place to reach my clients right on their phones, tablets, and computers. Using a paperless process makes it convenient and very easy to communicate with people who love the convenience that technology provides. Also, the increased use of technology will allow your wedding planner to be more productive and save you money in the end.
The Meetings - While there is still nothing better than a face to face meeting technology has made it easier to plan destination weddings and also meet with couples who may live in a different city. There are several video conference services that allow you to video chat with multiple people in different locations. Corporations have been videoconferencing for years, now it’s time for us to incorporate that into the wedding industry to expand our reach.
The Payments - Many customers are not a fan of online payments because of the service fee that tags along with many of them. There have been several products like Square that allow you to swipe a card from you electronic device to accept payments from clients. Well, I have one better than that! ‘Cash App/Square Cash’ is an app that you can use to request and receive payments from customers without a service fee! That is awesome!
Overall, the use of technology in wedding planning saves my brides’ time, provides comfort and also saves TONS of money!
